Annual Food Collection - Fall

The Harvest II Food Drive for the Stillwater area has been going strong since is began in 1988. The Junior Service League of Stillwater coordinates the community-wide food drive each year that provides a harvest to those in need. Each year, our community joins together to donate food, give contributions and volunteer their time to provide a second harvest of the season, Harvest II. Last year, more than 500 community volunteers collected, sorted, packed and distributed more than 40,000 pounds of food to area agencies.  The area agencies that receive donations from Harvest II are COCAA, Mission of Hope, Storehouse, Love Feast, Salvation Army, Wings of Hope Family Crisis Services, Neighborhood Ministries, Payne County Youth Services, Cowboys with Compassion, Our Daily Bread, Operation Christmas and Oklahoma Adult and Teen Challenge. In addition to the food donations, monetary donations to these groups at the beginning of the summer to help through those last months until the next Harvest II. Through donations, these agencies are able to provide food to those in need throughout the entire year. The success of Harvest II is the result of the overwhelming support and participation from the community. So many individuals, businesses, churches and students in the community donate food, time, and efforts to Harvest II each year. We are truly thankful for the community and our sponsors that make this mission possible.

The Operation Christmas Store. Operation Christmas, coordinated by Stillwater JSL and COCAA, through donations from the community, provides food, clothing and toys to families in need by giving them a unique shopping experience. For many years, the two organizations have worked with Payne County businesses and members of the community to create a festive and happy atmosphere for all qualified families during the holiday season.

Applicants who meet the requirements and who are willing to donate a set number of volunteer hours in support of  a local charity can receive an opportunity to get a set number of quality gifts for each child in a range of values. They also often receive wrapping paper, tape, batteries as needed, stocking stuffers as available, and food for Christmas as well.

Crisis Intervention.jpg

Year Round Mission

Crisis Intervention is a unique mission because it is an on-going mission.  This mission is two fold:  1.  To provide school age children, elementary through high school, any provision they need to optimize learning.  Those needs include health, supplies, clothing, and more.  JSL members will work with school counselors and nurses to identify children with needs and purchase said items.  Currently this includes all Stillwater and Perkins public schools.  JSL has proudly donated items to the recent addition of the Pioneer Pantry located at Stillwater High School.

2.  JSL will also help support its designated agencies: Wings of Hope; Mission of Hope; Payne County Youth Shelter, COCAA, Storehouse, Our Daily Bread, Cowboys with Compassion, Teen Challenge, and XXX with small needs they have for their storage room and/or an event.  We highlight one agency per month so that our membership is aware of the missions and shelters in our community.  At the close of each season (August-June) we will divide our surplus and make a cash donation to these deserving agencies.

First Sunday in June Anually

The Scorcher has become a tradition for some of the participants.  This is a race for the Stillwater Community and there are many that travel to participate in this event.    Half-marathon and 5K participants will receive a race bag, T-shirt and finishers’ medal.  Cash rewards will be given to the top three male and female finishers for the half marathon.  In addition, age group awards will be given to top finishers of both races.

All proceeds go to the Junior Service League of Stillwater, which supports the Stillwater and surrounding communities and various agencies through the efforts of Harvest II and Operation Christmas, and Crisis Intervention.  Our outreach missions support the following 10 agencies in the area: Salvation Army, Cowboys with Compassion, Neighborhood Ministries of Perkins, COCAA: Community Action of Stillwater, Payne County Youth Shelter, Mission of Hope, Wings of Hope, Our Daily Bread, Oklahoma Adult and Teen Challenge, and Operation Christmas Store.
